Social Services and Community Education

About Social Services and Community Education

Our Social Services program provides individual case management, advocacy, and referrals for participants enrolled in other Mercy Center programs. A licensed social worker supports participants in navigating complex systems and resolving issues related to housing, immigration, taxes, domestic violence, and public benefits.

A key component of this program is NYC Benefits, a specialized initiative where participants are screened for eligibility for a wide range of public benefitsincluding SNAP (food stamps), cash assistance, Medicaid, and Social Security. Our case manager then assists them with applying for and maintaining these benefits to help ensure long-term financial and household stability.

Our Community Education Program offers workshops (in English and Spanish) on topics identified by staff as especially relevant to our participants’ lives. Recent workshops have covered subjects such as tenant rights, street vending, taxes, and understanding domestic violence.
