Mercy Center is a comprehensive community center that has been creating opportunities for women, men and families in the South Bronx to grow and thrive through education, family, civic, social and economic programs for nearly 35 years.  The NYC Kids Rise Save for College initiative is a scholarship and savings program designed to make college and career training more accessible and achievable for all NYC public school students. In partnership with Mercy Center Youth Programs and the Qualitas of Life Foundation, the project will support families in the South Bronx community in saving for their children’s futures.

We are seeking a Program Manager to oversee the implementation of the NYC Kids Rise Save for College initiative within NYC Public Schools District 7.   Reporting to the Director of Youth Programs, the Program Manager will run the day-to-day operations, oversee the program’s implementation, coordinate and manage relationships with schools and community partners, conduct community presentations; oversee outreach efforts, ensure achievement of program goals, and supervise the Family Outreach & Enrollment Coordinator. They will manage the relationship with the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program, attend all trainings, and participate in the Save for College Program learning community. They will manage all reporting required by NYC Kids RISE.  

This is a full-time, 40 hour/week in-person position that will require flexibility in scheduling to include one evening shift per week when evening programs are operating.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project relationships with NYC Kids Rise, Qualitas of Life Foundation, District 7 schools, community partners, and families.
  • Present information about Save for College Program and college savings account materials in a variety of settings, facilitate informational workshops for schools and parents, and work 1:1 with parents
  • Supervise Family Outreach & Enrollment Coordinator
  • Oversee staff completing data entry to ensure all interactions with participating parents and other key data points such as workshop attendance and hotline calls are captured in NYC Kids RISE’s database
  • Work on administrative and outreach projects that support direct parent engagement strategy
  • Conduct outreach to participating parents in person, via phone, text and/or email to explain the program and engage them to complete the foundational steps
  • Provide one-on-one navigational and technical support for parents/guardians in viewing their scholarship accounts, opening and linking their own college savings accounts and making deposits;
  • Provide feedback and generate new ideas for ways that Mercy Center and NYC Kids RISE can support parents to understand the program and complete the foundational steps
  • Represent Mercy Center in interactions with a variety of community stakeholders such as school and community-based organization partners
  • Maintain and support staff to maintain strict adherence to NYC Kids RISE data security and privacy policies
  • Compile periodic reports on the program as required by funder
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field plus three years’ experience preferred – OR – Bachelor’s degree required plus six years of relevant experience
  • Fluency and literacy in English and Spanish required
  • Experience with New York City elementary educational settings
  • Proficient public speaking skills
  • Computer literacy; willingness and ability to learn new software and databases
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team and use self-initiative
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position works in office settings and in the communities of the South Bronx
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather, sometimes standing or walking for extended periods.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time

Compensation:

Salary range is $65,000-$68,000 depending on experience.  We offer a comprehensive benefit package including health insurance and a tax-deferred annuity, with generous paid vacation, sick and personal days.
