Some children participated in truly
a unique event this summer – another reason we live in gratitude here on 145th
Street. Cast members from the Tony winning musicals In the Heights
and Chicago visited Mercy Center on Tuesday, July 1st, led by dancer
and choreographer Luis Salgado. Luis and members of his recently
inaugurated R.Evolucion Latina – Dare to Go Beyond! ensemble (www.revolucionlatina.org)
danced with a dozen of our children and their dance mentors from House
of the Roses (www.houseoftheroses.com)
who provide our children throughout the year with weekly practice in
dance and rhythm exercises. Six dancers from this group were selected to
perform at a special event with Antonio Banderas the week of July 7th. They rehearsed with Broadway dancers and dancers from Ballet Hispanico for
their July 9th afternoon performance with Antonio, who continues to
remember with great fondness his visit to Mercy Center in 2006. Mercy
Center children dancing and singing on Broadway may be soon in the
future!
